Advances in CAD and Internet technologies enable creation of highly complex, real-world CAD models and true 24/7 "Follow the Sun" Design-thru-Manufacturing scenarios. With these advances come challenges as well: high-end CAD systems are expensive and often too difficult for the infrequent user to learn, and globally dispersed Design and Manufacturing teams can face language and communication barriers that make verbal and textual communications difficult. The ability to easily and accurately communicate using detailed graphical information is critical.
In this brief video, we'll demonstrate how ProductCenter PLM's integration of Oracle's AutoVue technology allows your organization to accomplish this goal.

The Workspace Explorer dialog combines some of the functionality of the ProductCenter Desktop and Windows Explorer and is accessible from File -> Workspace Explorer menu. The dialog allows you to review the contents of any file system folder to quickly understand whether a file exists in ProductCenter, has been modified, is checked out, is non-latest, and if the file is already opened in its associated application. This dialog includes a Folder Tree for browsing the file system folder hierarchy. Once a folder has been opened, for each file in the folder ProductCenter will display in separate columns the ProductCenter Desktop attributes of Name, Revision, Status, Title, File Type and Class. There is also a Location column to provide detailed information regarding the location state of each item. The dialog will also include File system information such as File Size, Date Modified, Date Created and an Attribute column indicating if the file is writable or read-only from the file system perspective.

ProductCenter lets you establish various types of connections or links between database items so that you can access the set of related items easily and know something about their relationship. You can establish links between files, projects, and parts as you work. Links are often used to connect members of a product configuration. For example, the product Wagon could be linked to wheels, wagon body, and handle. They may be used, as well, to connect markup files to the file, project, or part being evaluated, or any other kinds of item whose relationship is important to someone. For example, you could create links between a summary report and its source files.
